Students from the UNL chapter of the Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE) Computer Science honor society drove to the UPE Annual Convention which was held in conjunction with ACM's SIGCSE 2009 Technical Symposium on Education in Computing Sciences in Chattanooga, TN. Attendees from UNL included all but one of the charter members of the chapter as well as professors Dr. Charles Riedesel and Dr. Leen- Kiat Soh.

Dr. Riedesel and Dr. Soh gave presentations related to their research, and the UPE members gave a brief presentation on the chapter's activities since its re-activation last November.  This included a preview of their first project: construction of a novel interactive real-time map of classes in session in Avery Hall and the new Shorr Center, which is being designed for display on projectors in the Shorr Center.  Also at SIGCSE were many exhibits by Microsoft Research, Google, Intel, and others; keynote addresses; panels; workshops; and much more.

While in Chattanooga, the group was able to enjoy some of the city's attractions, including some well-known local restaurants such as Porker's BBQ, a favorite of President George W. Bush, and Cheeburger Cheeburger where UPE president Robert Woodward, a junior Computer Science major, won The Famous Pounder Challenge, earning himself a picture on the restaurant's "Wall of Fame".
